2026 Registration - Boundaries, Imports, Eligibility

Jun. 15, 2026

It is that time of year again where everybody is starting to register for fall basketball. It has been brought to our attention there have been some questions about player transfer policies. Please see below a brief overview and reminder of those policies:

EYBA TRANSFER POLICY

The EYBA and its board of directors, mandate players must play in their respective geographical zone, thus ensuring long term sustainability of each Zone’s program, and are able to service players from their own community before taking imports. This policy helps ensure comparable competition between zones, and the strength and sustainability of the league as a whole.

Each zone may have a transfer / release request package and reserved the right to refuse or accept transfer requests. Please familiarize yourself with the EYBA transfer and release policies, EYBA rulebook, under section 3.

Teams are only accepted from EYBA member zones.

Note: Import player(s) not properly released through their Zone Director shall be considered an ineligible player and may result in disciplinary action taken against the player, team or zone. Please see section 11c.22 in the “Major Infractions” of the rule book.

Possible Disciplinary Actions for Playing with an Ineligible Import:

  • Player Suspension
  • Team forfeiture of all games in which the ineligible player participated
  • Team removal from the schedule
  • Fine applied to the Zone
  • Forfeiture of Provincial Tournament eligibility for the team or player

Transfer infractions will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis and are not limited to the aforementioned penalties. Repeat offenders will face more severe penalties.

Transfer Request Considerations & Circumstances

Transfer requests are processed on a case-by-case basis. There are special circumstances that may warrant a transfer.

  • A player who attends a school outside of their geographical home zone.
  • Players who have two places of residence due to a split family. Note; they must register with a Zone within those respective home addresses.
  • A zone has closed registration due to capacity, and an outside zone has space and is willing to receive and import.

Transfer Grandfathering Rule

**Transfers that took place for the 2024-25 (or in a previous year) regular season

(anyone that registered in the Fall of 2024 or before) can be considered

grandfathered regardless of tier. **

  • All Import Players playing in Tier 4 or lower are not required to return to their geographical zone for the following season, they are considered part of their new zone if they remain in Tier 4 or lower.
  • All Import Players playing in Tier 1-3 are required to return to their geographical zone for the following season. These players must request a new release each season to ensure their geographical zone has enough players to field Tier 1-3 teams in each age category.
  • Any player looking to try out for a Tier 1-3 team must always register with their geographical zone first.

We thank you all for your continued support and look forward to seeing you all on the court this fall!

Best regards,
